Consumer Retail Researcher - Part Time - China

Roles & Responsibilities

The Researcher will work alongside other China-based contributors to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will be expected to tap into their existing network of contacts and develop new industry sources and maintain relationships to generate timely, in-depth interviews spanning the retail and consumer market in China. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. Attention to detail, analytical thinking and timely communication are other key aspect of the role. The individual in this role will also work closely with global team leaders based in different regions. This is a remote/telecommuting position. Candidates based in tier-1 cities may get priority consideration.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the China retail and consumer market, with a strong background in apparel and footwear, retail wholesale and/or consumer products industry. Ability and willingness to understand other key retail and consumer markets is a plus.
  • Industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations; ability to network and successfully develop new sources is key.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the consumer or retail market, or researcher who covers these topics; consulting or market research firm experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes. Ability to analyze and identify essential findings; spot trends, understand and articulate changes and underlying factors driving change
  • Strong organizational skills; an ideal candidate is a quick learner and able to multi-task and meet deadlines, communicates and responds in a timely fashion.
  • The ability to speak/read and write native Chinese is required; verbal and written English skills preferred.
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence
  • A native Chinese born speaker and citizen. If not, the proper credentials and work permits to be employed in China is a must.

Copy Editor - Eastern Time Zone - US Based


 OTR Global’s Editorial Services team edits and publishes the firm’s research reports daily for institutional investment clients and is seeking a Copy Editor to join the team. The Copy Editor will be responsible for the following:

  • Copyedit, fact check and proofread research reports, daily email flash briefing and weekly research summary
  • Review data and interview content to ensure report conclusions are sound and connect the dots with OTR’s prior research
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors during the editing process and help them clarify their message
  • Carry out some administrative tasks, such as sending meeting invitations and posting conference call recordings on OTR’s internal website
  • Assist editing of marketing documents, social media posts and style guide


  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of work experience
  • Healthy dose of intellectual curiosity, combined with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal researchers and reporters
  • Strong line-editing, copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Eye for detail and spotting factual errors and inconsistencies
  • Ability to maintain quality under pressure/deadlines and quickly prioritize and shift gears; strong organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze report findings, understand conclusions and think critically about how best to convey a message
  • Working knowledge of AP Stylebook and strong command of English grammar
  • Basic mathematical skills, statistical instincts
  • Familiarity with the financial industry a plus
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Excel a plus
  • Hold or be willing to obtain Series 7 and Series 24 FINRA licenses

Part-Time Researcher - Healthcare

OTR Global's Healthcare group has an established reputation for identifying market inflections ahead of consensus and is looking for a Healthcare Researcher to join its global team. This individual will work closely with senior researchers in the group to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to efficiently develop new relationships with healthcare industry professionals who are tuned into the latest medical advances and trends, and maintain those relationships over time. The primary responsibility of this position is conducting in-depth phone interviews with doctors, surgeons, and other healthcare industry professionals to gauge and detail the market acceptance of a variety of new medical devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are other important aspects of this role, as are organizational and analytical skills, an ability to “connect the dots”, spot trends, and help identify new research ideas.

Professional & Personal Qualifications

  • Strong background working in healthcare, ideally 3+ years as a nurse or as a representative for a pharmaceutical or medical device company
  • Understanding of the key trends shaping healthcare today, and an ability to identify inflections in those trends
  • Ability to efficiently develop and maintain new physician, surgeon, nurse practitioner, and other industry source relationships
  • Well developed, positive communication skills; excellent interviewing skills with a knack for interpreting interview data and spotting discrepancies in a story.
  • Experience with the financial industry a plus
  • The ability to analyze and identify essential findings and draw a defendable conclusion is critical; strategize and think broadly forward
  • Stellar organizational and project management skills, proactive thinking, ability to meet deadlines, multitask and work under pressure; schedule flexibility a must
